Dems say they are open to shutting down government to oppose Trump 'if we have to'
They're not shutting down government. The Republicans have a majority, they can keep the government open by themselves.
What they are doing, I hope, is saying we're not going to cooperate on the budget until the lawbreaking stops -

What do you think is the most ideal form of feminism?
I don't usually engage in long form banter, but I have some time for it today. Here you go -
The ideal form of feminism, according to me, is one that doesn’t just scream “ this one gender is bad” but actually works toward dismantling the systems that screw over everyone—women, men, non-binary folks, and especially the working class.
1. Feminism should be about liberation, not just women vs. men.
Simone de Beauvoir, in The Second Sex, pointed out how women have always been treated as the “Other”—as if their existence only makes sense in relation to men. True feminism isn’t about reversing that dynamic but about making sure no one is trapped in rigid gender roles.Women should be free to exist as full human beings, not just wives/mothers/caretakers. Men should be free from toxic masculinity that forces them to be unemotional, dominant, and financially responsible for everyone. Non-binary and gender-nonconforming people shouldn’t have to fit into a box just to have their rights respected.
2. Feminism has to be about economics and class, not just slogans.
One of the biggest reasons women have been oppressed? Money. If you depend on someone else to survive, you’re never really free. So, real feminism should be about:
Equal pay and job opportunities for women, so they’re not forced into bad marriages or unsafe jobs.Fair work policies that let men and women share childcare and housework (because let’s be real, most “progressive” men still expect women to handle that).
Recognizing that feminism isn’t just for middle-class women who want to break the glass ceiling—it should also fight for working-class women who have it way worse.
3. Feminism can’t be just a Western, upper-class thing.
A major issue with mainstream feminism is that it often focuses on one type of woman—usually white, educated, and financially stable. But, the struggles of a corporate woman in New York are not the same as those of a domestic worker in India. In many places, women still don’t have basic rights (education, safety, freedom to marry who they want).
Feminism needs to be led by marginalized voices—Dalit women, Black women, Indigenous women—who face multiple layers of oppression.
4. Feminism should include men—but not by bending over backwards.
A lot of men feel alienated from feminism, either because they think it’s an attack on them or because they don’t see how it benefits them. The reality? Patriarchy screws men over too.
It forces them to be emotionally numb robots who can’t cry or be vulnerable. It puts all the financial pressure on them, which is why male suicide rates are so high. It even works against them in custody battles, where mothers are often favored even if the father is equally (or more) fit to parent.
That said, feminism shouldn’t have to constantly prove that it’s not about hating men. If guys are serious about making the world fairer, they should support it without needing a cookie.
5. Feminism has to be political—but not just for political clout.
Let’s be real: a lot of politicians pretend to care about women’s rights when it helps their agenda.Left-wing parties use feminism for votes but don’t always follow through with policies.Right-wing groups selectively weaponize feminism—they talk about women’s rights when it’s about attacking another community but ignore it otherwise. And freebies, c'mon now.
Feminism should hold all political groups accountable, not just the ones that say the right things.
6. Feminism needs to be personal and everyday, not just academic.
At its core, feminism is about daily life. Love, marriage, sex, motherhood—all of it matters.
Women should have real choices. We should encourage healthy relationships instead of making men vs. women some kind of eternal war.
TL;DR: Feminism should be about freedom for everyone.
It’s not about putting women above men—it’s about getting rid of the structures that hold people back based on gender. Women (especially marginalized women) are still the most oppressed, but feminism should also recognize how rigid gender roles hurt men too.
At the end of the day, the world can’t progress when half the population is held back. So the best feminism? One that actually fights for change, not just social media clout. -
