Because people don't understand the concept of passive income and only think one way to secure their old age is through their children. It's literally hit or miss, and unreliable.
Also it's how the Indian tradition works, people literally raise their children the way they want to without asking the kid what they want (sometimes)
Pushing their own dreams on their kids which can have a negative effect on their children when they grow up and fail to become successful.
Now you're in a situation where the kid is an adult who couldn't do what he/she wanted to and the only person they can blame is their parents. Hence why such kids abandon their parents in their old age.
