While I understand some of the hate, most of it is quite unjustified.

In real life, though, I haven’t had any Canadian be rude with me. I have several Canadian friends, and I’m great friends with them and their families. Although, I’ve observed the rise of an anti-Indian sentiment.

For example, I went to Tim Horton’s a few months ago. A lot of TH franchises are notorious for having replaced local kids with temporary foreign workers at the register. So, when I was there, I witnessed an old Canadian man, high as balls, screaming at the staff, who were conversing in Punjabi, to speak English or return to India. Thankfully, he was promptly removed by the cops within the next 2 minutes.

When I was new here, I witnessed another old and grumpy Canadian call a Korean lady some nasty names, then looked at me, and said “Indians are great, I love their food.” These incidents are extremely rare, though.

Social media may make it seem like all Canadians are hostile towards Indians and it’s a dangerous place for the latter, but it’s completely untrue. Most are really nice, and there may be just 1-2 out of 10,000 people who are racist. As long as you are skilled, are fluent in English or French, and assimilate into their culture, you have nothing to worry about.
