Waited whole life for such a thread. this will be a long one, But worth it. Read on..

First thing first, we are not traditional rich family, where there is one large biz and everyone in the city knows us. We are all wealthy individually, and yet there is no one business big enough where whole family works together. We are all highly educated and hold several awards and distinctions. Also 4 patents in manufacturing.


Again, this will be a real brag...I feel the guilty pleasure of it already.
Here we go,
I was not born here in Surat, but shifted here form Mumbai 15 yrs back for growth and expansion. Now settled in Vesu.

1. individually - near 12 cr. (not counting inheritance, as its yet to be dispersed)
family wealth - grandfather (93 yrs old and v much alive) - way way beyond 100+, also, not imp. read on and you will understand why. We have zero debt in whole family. Never needed to take one.

2. Total 12 people. Multiple homes, main house Grandfather/GMother stays in Powai Mumbai (8 bedroom, 2 office, 3 living room, some 10 washrooms, type bungalow, and family head office has always been at home, 3 staff/manager/accountant come home daily dressed in formals for office work :P, must be some 8-9k sq ft. old construction, not sure).
There are lots of other properties we keep switching to.

3. I own 3Cars . One for Me, one for my wife and one extra for backup just in case, or if a guest/family comes to visits us.
all of us together own around 10 (my 3 , siblings 3, dad 1, uncle 2, extra home innova 1car). None of them are above 20 lakhs. most expensive car in India between all of us is Innova.

4. I personally have 3 business, one internet business, my primary (hence I am on reddit: P), one education business that wife runs, one diamond jewelry, we both run together with a manager.
Family made wealth - by switching business every other decade. 1970s - 1980s - Jewelry and manufacturing. 90s manufacturing - textile, chemicals, steel, fuel station, builder, retail stores jewelry. 2000s Real estate. Now, several partners run all family business. We are simple silent partners of family biz.


5. Single advice- First learn to earn money, only then add family/others money in business. First earn without investment in your teens, and before you turn 25 you should have an independent earning of at least 50k/month. Only once you achieve that on your own with zero investment, pump big family money in the business, then in few years AIM to return it all.
Most of the time you wouldn't need their money. I never needed it. All that i will inherit will be straight passed on to my kid. Which is again, V nice. Not denying it. If you ever come across big money, here is what you do.
Live simple. Have huge money in bank/investment. It literally Makes working OPTIONAL, Then work because you love to, not because you have to.
Travel abroad/country every other month, just travel and tell no one about it. Life will be very very high quality. I moved out of Mumbai for this one reason.
People in Surat know I am well to do, but nobody knows about extent of the real thing. Life is good. I look like an regular upper middle class type family. I am alright with it. Its awesome. Full of freedom. I can eat and stay anywhere I want to.
For me the pizza at K's Charcoal/Capiche and that roadside stone oven pizza behind PVR are the best in Surat and are basically the same. I go to the one I am in mood for, and not on the basis of who is with me. I seldom care about impressing others.

p.s - go ahead and ask me anything you find this interesting. Very rarely one gets an opportunity to brag about such things.
