Okay but to be fair, smoking enough cigarettes to take away 8 hours of your life (24 cigs) costs you anywhere from $7-$15 (from 30¢ to 60¢ per cig). Meanwhile working for 8 hours will *earn* you anywhere from $72 (if you are stupid enough to be in a job that pays an illegal $9/hr) to $640 ($80/hr if any neet locks in enough to eventually have a $150k salary). So basically, smoking just 24 cigs a day instead of having a job will cost you an opportunity cost anywhere from $79 a day to $655 a day or more. And cigarettes cost a lot of money over time, which most disability benefits or inheritances won’t be able to support for very long.

I made this comment to show that the “right” option really all depends on if you want money and resources from having responsibilities or want no money and no resources from having no responsibilities (unless you have a fat inheritance or several people providing for you 100% of the time). Just kidding. I thought of that later but I actually made this comment bc I enjoy doing math and wanted to see mathematically how much money one would have to give up per day if they chose cigarettes over a job. Because I’m autistic.
