Idk many tribes do actually call themselves Assamese like Sonowal, Thengal kachari, Mising, Deuri, others being Ahom, Moran, Koch etc. Atleast that's what i find in upper Assam, we don't differentiate amongst each other like they do in Lower Assam. Lol i remember one "Talukdar" guy making absurd videos on Ahoms and some other tribals, and i get why Tribals don't want to associate with the term Assamese, because of these people.

Assamese is not a linguistic identity. When the term "Assamese" was first used, it meant the Ahoms, later on everyone seemed to adopt the term just fine, even the Bodos were okay being called Assamese till the "Assamese Chauvinists" and "caste-hindu Assamese" started treating tribals as lower class so many tribals started to alienate from the term Assamese.

And also food habit among the tribals and other "Assamese" are pretty much same/similar, atleast thats what i find. I never feel like trying a whole new different cuisine when im having a Bodo dish, or say Dimasa dish. Everyone consumes pork, silkworm, phoring, snails are one of the highlighted dishes in my community, rice beer etc too. Only the caste hindu Assamese don't consume these stuffs.

I personally consider all natives as Assamese (as a state identity), not the ones who just speak Assamese but those native tribals with their own languages too. And i think it's high time we stay united looking at our state being outnumbered by outsiders.
