I manage 4 blogs, all running on WordPress. My focus currently is on updating existing blog posts. I do that because I notice that Google is much more open to sending traffic to old posts compared to new ones. Google sees less risk, especially if a URL is regularly updated. Google always compares a page's content to the content of other competing pages when ranking URLs in SERP. So when Google sees regular updates, it's an extremely good signal and the page positions improve.

Here's my process that actually works. I use a solution called Hipa.ai. It has a native WordPress integration that lets you publish all updates automatically, which makes the whole process even smoother. Feel free to replicate it for your blogs.

1. Feed articles and generate ideas using the most advanced and expensive model you have access to. I use o1 by OpenAI. There are probably similar models that can "think longer" by Anthropic too. This step generates 5-8 ideas usually. If I'm not satisfied, I generate more ideas passing the list of existing ones to make sure there are no duplicates.

Note: it's important to ask AI give you a reason why a specific update make sense to do. To do this simply ask to provide a detailed reason.

2. I pick 2-3 ideas I like and then for each generate the text I need to add to an article. Recently I started rewriting existing blocks of text too, so it's not only about adding new paragraphs.

I use ChatGPT 4o for generic themes. For fact sensitive topics (legal, healthcare topics) I use Perplexity. Perplexity is unique because it does 2 things for me: Researchers information in the Internet AND then generate a text based on that information from the Internet. The hallucinations in this are minimized, the piece of content is written based on trusted sources that are at the top of search results.

3. Extremely important step: when to publish updates? Instead of applying all changes at once, I schedule them for the future. Basically for each article I have dozens of updates (big and small) for the period of half a year.

It creates an impression that a big team of 20 copywriters, researchers and SEO specialists work on the blog. In reality it's just me, an AI and some smart scheduling of updates.

The procedure can be completely performed by anyone without the need to do the heavy lifting of research and copywriting. All you have to do is just review ideas and approve changes. With the WordPress integration, you don't even need to manually copy-paste the updates - technology does the rest.
