NE is so diverse with so many dialects and tribes, who chooses what language to make mandatory without affecting other minorities? And what if majority tribe starts to enforce and promote their culture neglecting other smaller tribes there?? This is likely to create a new conflict there.

Language imposition is a big problem in India good step by the Maharashtra government. Regional culture promotion only contributes to Indian nationalism. It's not against it, but some people don't understand that.

It's a complex issue.

I am in delhi, and near nehru place there is this flyover under which there are like 50 homeless people living with their kids and wives and parents.

I had to hire 3 peons for office - the job was making and serving tea and doing dusting.
Minimum wage in delhi for unskilled labor at the time was 16200 per month. I was offering 18k. ZERO people agreed to even try for the job.

Similarly there's the issue of the "haves" being unwilling to contribute more for their improvement.
Technically domestic help at home has to be paid as per government mandated minimum wage laws but no one's really willing to pay the current minimum wage of approx 17k per month (this is again delhi) to a full time house help.

Minimum wage in haridwar industrial area for example is 12700 approx per month

Marathi should be compulsory in playgroups, nursery, junior and senior kindergarten of all pre-primary schools in the state along with English.

This will solve the issues related to language within two decades.

Any language when taught right from age 2 to age 6 remains lifelong fluent language for the learners. Plus kids can learn upto six languages upto the age of 6. Higher the age, higher the difficulty learning new language.

Plus since all neuron connections in brain develop in such under-6 formative years, multilingualism actually lead to better brain development.


For all kids who learn Marathi, Hindi comes naturally and easily in later years through exposure to TV, Films, Cricket and News. Reverse is not however true as limited exposure to Marathi in the household of non-Marathi speakers.

So teaching Marathi and English for all kids in Maharashtra right from age 2 to 6 is sure way to resolve all language issues in 20 years time-line, as majority of migrants settle into married life after migration and give birth and raise kids in Maharashtra itself. Only minority of migrants shift after well into their 30's and 40's when their kids are already in higher standards and face difficulty in learning Marathi.

I am not saying stop teaching Marathi after 6.

I just said 2-6 years are crucial years and learning should "start" in this age range. Not End at age 6.
