The Bishnupriyas are the main ones who are still pushing this theory because without this their whole identity falls apart.

They claim themselves to be Kshatriyas of antiquity and how they are descended from Arjuna and Chitrangada. And how Meiteis evicted them from Manipur and usurped their rightful kingdom.

So they keep pushing and pushing the narrative that present day Manipur is indeed the Manipur of Mahabharata.


In reality, they were a mixed race Bengali speaking a Kamrupi dialect who came from Cachar when it was over run by Koch and Dimasas. Some were later brought by Meitei kings as followers of their Gurus. Some were prisoners of war. They called their country - Banga and claimed their kingdom was overrun by Meitei’s to Francis Buchanan, the British envoy to Burma, in 1790s when he met some of them in Mandalay. The Burmese called them Akyabat.

They wear Meitei clothes like phanek, speak a language with many Meitei words in it, divide themselves in clans based on Meitei clans, some have Meitei occupational surnames.

And they used to work as grass cutters for the King initially. Some also worked for the Queen. The society is still divided into two group - King’s group and Queen’s group based on that.

One of the King of Manipur is said to have married a Bishnupriya woman of Ningthoukhong, Manipur and their descendants have the title Rajkumars. A few years back, some bishnupriyas tried to claim one of the RK descendants as the King of Bishnupriyas. That led to a fiasco and the guy had to issue a public statement in Manipur.

Anyways, the only ones pushing for this Mahabharat theory are the Bishnupriyas not Meiteis. Because without this comforting theory, they have to face the stark reality that they originated from common Bengali or Bengali like peasants and POWs.

Kinda reminds me of how some Pangals Muslims of Manipur try to put forward theories of how they might be descended from Shah Shuja of Mughals or Iranian or Turk nobles because the uncomfortable truth is that they are also descended from POWs.

Reason 2: While tata service might be bad compared to others but ALFA platform (on which punch and altroz are based) is a rock solid platform with extremely few niggles. Whatever tata vehicle niggles you hear in internet are related to OMEGA platform (harrier and safari) , so you can easily go for punch

1. This really the ground reality with the people of blr. Some useless bustards make a big deal of language issues on both sides but most people are just nice and busy with their own work. I'm a so called "Northie" who grew up in blr. Never had issued before. It's just the last few years leading up to the recent congress govt.

I think our problem gonna be English. This generation most children doesn't even know how to read and write telugu. With all this Importance to English in schools our next generation is slowly losing their connection with their mother language.

Of course we may argue that there are rural areas and towns where this is not that relevant but I think it will spread to towns and rural areas in comming time.

Up your civic sense when you land in our place. You might say lack of civic sense is the same across India, but it is not. I am from South, and I have seen such degradation in this aspect in recent times with the huge migration of north folks here. Also, in the long term, vote for folks who have the development of your state in their agenda. Be loyal to your places and try to develop them, work for them just like how we natives developed ours, instead of always escaping the space that is created by yourselves.
