I dislike these headlines as it appears more real money was lost than was in reality. the market dropped from 105k to 97k, which is -7.5%. Assuming the liquidated positions were opened at 105k, that is about 15x leverage give or take (again assuming 97k triggered liduation of 105k position). So $900m in leveraged btc positions is 'only' $60m real cash being lost. It might even be less if you have people / bots doing 50x - 100x crazyness.

Can someone actually explain this? I see no special connection between AI and crypto. If the AI is open source, you can run it anywhere on anything, no need to run it on some infrastructure incentivised by crypto.

Of course you could run it in these services, but you could also run any compute task on them.
