Ignorance isn’t an excuse to break laws in another country. He engaged in an activity that requires licenses and permits to both possess a gun and hunt. He should’ve familiarized himself with the basic laws, he chose not to, and now he’s paying the consequences for it.

I would stay out of it and tell his family to hire a lawyer. And possibly look for a job elsewhere if you were independently employed by this idiot.
