Tamilnadu and Hindi Why are tamilian's against hindi as third language. Why don't they just consider it as another language like English. Does this by any chance stem from requiring to prove supremacy over central government or north indian states? Also why is there so much of regionalism in tamilnadu compared to other states? I feel it is good for people living in tamilnadu but not to an outsider living in the state. I felt more of an outsider in tamilnadu than I have experienced in any other state. Kerala and Telugu... 2 14 replies

Opinion: English Medium education is not necessary for English proficiency (post is in English and Tamil) Many people are reluctant to provide Tamil or non-English medium education and favor English medium since they think their children will lag behind in English. This isn't true. For instance, if you want your children to go to Germany, Japan, Korea, France, etc., do you provide their languages as a subject or want language-based education in that medium? That is, if parents want their child to settle in Germany, do they make them study German as a language or put them in a... 3 11 replies

We need to learn from the Japanese. As the title says, we need to learn from the Japanese people on how to preserve, popularise and profit off of their culture. While, Japan in the late 80s and early 90s was an economic and cultural powerhouse, this slowed down after the Bubble burst during the 90s and till date the Japanese economy has effectively shrunk by a significant percent. What hasn't shrunk though is Japan's soft power. Seeking Detailed Insights and Ritual Order for Tamil Iyengar Wedding: Iyer Bride and Iyengar Groom in Canada. Hello all! **Seeking some advice, any insight would be appreciated** I am a Tamil Iyer bride-to-be, engaged to a wonderful Tamil/Telugu Iyengar groom (Father is Tamil Iyengar and Mother is Telugu Iyengar) and we are currently residing in Canada, away from our famillies. As we prepare for our wedding with our families in Canada, we are committed to honoring traditional Tamil Iyengar Rituals. However, both of our families are not well-versed in these customs, and the local priests we have consulted have mentioned that Iyer and Iyengar weddings are... 2 0 replies
Protecting Tamil: A Message to All Tamilians Dear tamilans I believe English is a bigger threat to Tamil than Hindi. Today, English is becoming the main language for public communication. In schools, colleges, and offices, if you don’t speak English, even if you are a manager or a senior official, people may not give you the respect you deserve. I see young people playing cricket and talking only in English. This is not right. We are focusing on the wrong issue. English is slowly replacing Tamil in daily life. We mix English words and phrases into... 3 12 replies
