Do you guys envy people who are working abroad or in any big cities in India? This question is to people who had to move back to Sikkim or are working in Sikkim due to personal reasons I have started to find Gangtok gloomy and depressing. This place has started to suffocate me. There are few people who have chosen to work here and most of the people I have known are working in big cities and some have already settled abroad. I heard about them moving out when I was in college. People are going for their further studies or planning to settled abroad like nobody wants to come back. Even I genuinely feel that there is nothing left in this town. You don't see any... 5 0 replies
Kukhre trek On 23 feb we went on a trek to a place called kukhre ( via a local friend in mangan), if you look at maps look at naga forest block below Chungtang and returned today on 24 feb. We stayed overnight in a hut, it took us 6 hours to climb and 3.5 hours back. The steep climbing was very tough, but man just look at the photos. 4 0 replies

Anyone in Sikkim who is planning to go child free? I haven't met anyone in Sikkim yet who have plans of going childfree in future. I don't think even my parents will support my decision. Sometimes I find this topic as taboo as mental health. All the people I have met here, they all want to get married and have a family of their own. I have never heard anyone saying that they want to go childfree. I don't think even government here endorse such decision by citizens because of Sikkim being the least populated state in India. In... 2 9 replies
What industries or businesses should Sikkim focus on for future job sustainability? Hey everyone, As a Sikkimese, I’m genuinely concerned about the future of jobs in our state. A large portion of our population relies on government jobs or businesses directly connected to the government (like contracts, service support, and supplies). But let’s be real—our government sector is reaching a saturation point, especially when it comes to job opportunities. On top of that, Sikkim doesn’t have a strong industrial base to absorb the growing number of job seekers. Given the current education preferences and qualifications most of our people have, I... 4 6 replies
Any Lepcha speakers in NYC? I realize this is probably a long shot, but I was wondering if anyone knows any Lepcha speaker(s) in NYC. I've been in touch with Himalayan language activists in Queens, and they've never encountered anyone, but I supposed it's still possible. I am a student of Himalayan languages for research purposes, and enjoyed learning some Lepcha when I worked in Bhutan. Thanks very much! 1 2 replies

Is sikkim politics stooping to a new low? The recent statement by Samsong Tamang raises concerns about possible political motivation. Given the context, it’s worth questioning who stands to benefit from these developments. If this is an attempt to suppress a rising opposition party, it would reflect poorly on the state of politics in Sikkim. The way community sentiments are being leveraged for political gains is deeply concerning. 3 10 replies
Please suggest some good takeaways delivering online. Hello. The weather makes us crave some delectables. Never ordered online here in Sikkim. Could you please suggest some good restaurants that deliver online or any particular item that we should try from some place? Thanks in advance. 1 2 replies

Government jobs. Being a Government servant in today's Sikkim is actually the shittiest job, especially if you are at a higher bureaucratic position or the likes. Transfers, out-of-time promotion, job extensions (re-employments), this Government has made a full-on mockery of the administrative set-up of Sikkim. It has become a joke. All the officers have been crippled and it's a one man autocracy. Even the transfers of Group C and D employees, or ad-hoc employees are determined by the CM alone. Is there any mechanism for a Government servant to address political... 2 2 replies
Open to discuss Okay! So I need your opinions on this. Might rub some people the wrong way but what’s the deal with some people who consider themselves as ‘UPPER CASTE’ and hate reservation at the same time. Are they willing to establish kinship with people they consider as ‘sano jaat’? Reservation was never an economic issue to begin with. 2 1 replies
