Why is there a sudden surge in the city population?

I have been born and brought up in Mumbai. It used to be crowded at times but after covid there has been a sudden surge in the city population. For example, any temple I visited before used to take max 3 hours but now even a whole day is not enough. Even the lines are occupied by extremely rude people who do ego fights. Almost every place is filled to the brim that people are treated worse than cattles
