Did meaning of Vanavasa change in Yugas? Well,my first post here. Hopefully this is the right sub. So,I have this question in my mind-Was the meaning of Vanavasa was different in both Treta Yuga & Dwapar Yuga? In Treta,Ram, Laxman & Sita went for 14 years of Vanavasa. During this time they travelled a lot, from present day UP to present day Maharasthra, going to different forests & ashrams. In Dwapar,Pandavas & Draupadi went for Vanavasa for 12 years. However, they went to much nearer place relatively & spend 12 years there only. With only Arjun going far... 3 0 replies
I need book recommendations about Adi Shankaracharya and Advaita Vedanta for in depth study and understanding. I am an agnostic coming from a Hindu background. Lately I've been feeling that I haven't really explored Hinduism in its entirety especially when it comes to Advaita Vedanta. I am aware of Adi Shankaracharya and his teachings but my understanding of them are rudimentary at best. However Hindi is not my mother tongue so I have depend on english translations. Please recommend me books that go very deep into the Advaita philosophy and its history with reliable and accurate English translation. 3 1 replies

The sad state of archaelogical remains of ancient India displaying Sanatan Dharma's prevalance across the Indian subcontinent Assam historically have been untouched by foreign invasions, especially Mughals, thanks to the great Kings of Ahom Kingdom and the revered army general Shri Lachit Borbhukan, and has a rich cultural history because of that. As someone who lives in Guwahati, Assam, the heart of North-East India I can walk to any of the hills nearby and see ancient carvings on the rocks that have survived hundreds of years but the sad part is these ancient relics are not at all protected by the state government or the ASI... 2 3 replies
Opinion: Hindus and mods in this sub should create a thread for political discussion around the world where there are significant hindu populations and Should endorse a Political Party which suits us before each election. As of today and since the advent of Buddha, Sanatanis are facing an existential threat everywhere around the world. The main reason is lack of political unity. Political discussion is frowned upon in our societies and pursuit of material wealth is given far more importance than anything else. Before anyone says anything I am not Indian and was never one, though I love the LAND of India and the more broadly the sub continent and the hindu brethren inhabiting it (I couldn't give less of a crap about the... 1 13 replies

Where exactly is Saraswati River as per the mythology? I’ve read about the three rivers- Ganga, Yamuna & Saraswati merging in the Triveni Sangam in Prayagraj. But recently I came across an article which described the supposed geographical location of Saraswati River. It mentions that the river started in Himachal Pradesh & crossed Haryana & finally through Rajasthan. According to this, the route of River Saraswati doesn’t pass through the Triveni Sangam. Do we have any other description about the river which can negate this claim? 4 1 replies
