Naam Jaap Hello Everyone, I have a general question. Is it acceptable to practice Naam Jaap (chanting) while traveling or working in the office? If so, can we use the Naam Jaap finger machine that is available nowadays? Are there any limitations to doing this? Apologies if this seems like a silly question, I’m just starting my spiritual journey and seeking guidance. Thank you so much! 5 6 replies
Why are people thinking that they have right to act like Ishwar? Many Hindus claim that they can and should emulate Shri Krishna rather than Shri Raam. When he's Shri Krishna, he acts how Ishwar should act in human form. When he's Shri Raam, he acts how a human should act in human form. Why are people thinking that they have right to act like Ishwar? Why are they thinking that they know better than Hari? 2 12 replies

Why is visiting large temples in India so stressful and hectic? Shouldn't temples be the site of calm and serenity? Many temples on the other hand are badly maintained and the major ones are packed to the brim and extremely claustrophobic. The dirtiness is also a sight to behold. Many of the devotees have no civic sense and throw garbage like a dump yard. Most of the time we can't even see the deity. I can see rodents and cockroaches roaming here and there. The temple pond is also disgusting and filled with garbage. Most of the time the purpose... 4 3 replies
Passing sharp objects in hand among Hindus I have noticed that many Hindus avoid passing sharp objects such as knives or scissors from hand to hand. The person will rather place it on the table and the other person takes it from the table. My family members also follow this. I am curious if this is just a superstition or it is actually mentioned in our Shastras. And what is the reason for doing so? My parents are not able to answer when I asked them. What are your views about this? 5 4 replies
Heaven is for loosers Ashtavakra says: 1. There is neither heaven nor hell nor even liberation during life. In a nutshell, in the sight of the seer, nothing exists at all. 2.20. I am the Self, and my nature is pure Consciousness. The body, heaven, hell, bondage, freedom, and fear are merely imagined, and I have no relationship with them. 2. Those who desire pleasure and those who desire liberation are both found in this world, but the person who desires neither pleasure nor liberation is rare indeed. 4 2 replies
Tirupati: greed and mismanagement I visited Tirupati and due to new board and changes. None of us had prebooked tickets and we had to wait at night for token. I was trapped between two hefty men and their underarm smell was killing and I was struggling to breath. No volunteers anywhere to help. Gross mismanagement. Children were trampled, sarees were pulled. We were like animals. After this... 3 1 replies

Abishekam, Shringaram, and Harati of Sri Ramachandra on the auspicious occasion of Prathista Dwadashi For 500 years, our ancestors relentlessly fought for the Sri Rama Janma Bhumi in Ayodhya. With Sri Rama’s grace, we have finally established a temple one year ago. Last year, on the 22nd of January, many important persons gathered to conduct the Pranaprathista of Sri Rama Lalla. As per the lunar Hindu calendar, today January 11th marks exactly one year since the Pranaprathista. To celebrate, the temple has conducted a special Abishekam of Swami and is leading a three day celebration. Let’s all pray that, with Sri Krishna’s grace... 5 0 replies
What does the word " Dāsa " actually mean? This word confuses me a lot Dāsa. Many people consider it to be translated to servant but when you look for verses in text like manusmriti, it is translated into as slave for example: https://preview.redd.it/wtf3hh87abce1.png?width=449&format=png&auto=webp&s=3ab20848247c6e9faa3e7cf730fb6bbf356b7eb3 In above verse the word "presyo" is translated as servant while the word dasa is translated into slave: https://preview.redd.it/fzl1vy9fabce1.png?width=421&format=png&auto=webp&s=b84b2c15c82ac51721fdd21c96d3f10a82bd6314 This is making me really confused, **does this mean slavery was allowed in hinduism?** dasa also get translated as devotee, enemy of arya according to wisdomlib dict. : https://preview.redd.it/pu5gmzlyabce1.png?width=210&format=png&auto=webp&s=d0c9be3e551ddcad51b4df157da650d3c1c2dbbc It's translation also varies with text,... 8 0 replies
