Hey bud, happens to the best of us. Here’s my two cents.

If your plan is to take a 3-4 year break just to work on CS, might as well take up the option of doing a PhD. Some colleges offer a full ride scholarship for the right candidates. (Use your savings for living expenses, you have the option of staying frugal incase you choose to stay with a couple of roommates.) Maybe you can apply for a fall admit.

This way you don’t have to worry about gap years in your career/resume either. And also get to work on CS like you want. Also will open a path of EB1-A for you.

I’m assuming(I could be completely wrong) that the work atmosphere is messing with your headspace and to think clearly. I would suggest take a week long vacation (use FMLA if needed), do an activity that will clear your head (a trek, a hike, start a new video game and speedrun through it). Then sit and think about your next best options.

Don’t hurry yourself, even though you feel like you should. Because this will be a life changing decision for you.
