Unrelated topic, but I feel like cemetery seems to be an inefficient use of real estate similar to other massive religious spaces. The space should ideally be used to create low-cost housing for people -

Economist Ajay Shah on the Over fixation on Education and Literacy- Could Kerala Benefit from a New POV?
What idiocy is this?
He's comparing Haiti to 1970's France, the France which had colonies at the time?
The Algerian independence from France came only in the 1960's. France had colonies till the 1980's or so.
Is this some short-sightedness which sees only numbers and not the factors that are related to the numbers?
He's comparing India to our former coloniser Britain(which also had colonies till the 1980's) and trying to trivialise our gains?
Our country's growth was not accelerated using colonies or slaves.
Currently, there is no overfixation.
I think there is an underfixation. We don't have proper feedback in the educational system, the rate of change/updation needs to improve to match the material realities.
Kerala has a decently high life expectancy, low infant and mother mortality n all.
Our focus on public(and private) education(together with public healthcare) is a reason for that.
It has tangible benefits.
And consider this:
https://indianexpress.com/article/india/us-plane-brings-back-104-deported-indians-most-from-gujarat-punjab-and-haryana-981990
Our people known to be relatively large % of NRI's were not present in this list. Not sure if the flights afterwards had any, but even then, I think Keralites would be relatively very low.
Our people who have decent education, have legally gone there. That is a benefit of education.
We should not be going backward, but forwards.
Seeing the issues and adjusting accordingly.
Literacy, education and more
And regarding India, he says 80% of the population is literate.
This means 1 in every 5 Indian is not literate. We have obtained a commendable gain, and we have some more to go further.
We should. -
