Chennai Airport is chaotic, confusing and will feel overwhelming. First of all, keep your tickets (even digital copy works), visa (again digital is fine for tourism) and passport in hand, you’ll be asked for it before you enter the airport terminal. T2 would your terminal for all international departures, it will be second building just opposite the Aerohub mall. If you are going in a taxi, the drivers will drop you at g right place. If not, just look at the boards, it should be pretty obvious.

Once you enter the terminal building, look for your airlines logo on any of the check-in counters. Stand in the queue, there would be a different line for business class, if you are flying there. Make sure you checked the bags at home and don’t have anything restricted in check-in baggage. The airline staff at the counter will ask you for your entry visa. Show it to them. Collect your boarding pass and look for the “Immigration” board.

There will be multiple counters for immigration, go there and stand it any of the queues. You’ll be asked about your purpose of visit and stuff. Nothing major, they’ll take a photo and stamp your passport and ask you move forward. Move past the counter and go towards the right, you’ll end up security queue. Depending on what time you are departing, it might be overcrowded. Make sure to remove all metal stuff and keep it a tray (this includes belt, phone, watch, any electronics you are wearing and stuff). If you have a laptop, take it out and keep it in a tray. You generally won’t be asked to remove the shoes.

Once that’s done, collect your things. Head to your gate (it should be printed on your boarding pass or you can check the information screen). Stand in the queue with others when they call for boarding.

Few other things:

* Ask around, people at airport are helpful
* Make sure to arrive 3 hours prior at the airport. The process inside Airport will take at most 1:30hrs even during peak time, but boarding gate closes 30m to 1hr before the departure time. So don’t take any bets on that and panic at the last moment.
* Be seated after the flight lands until the gates are opened and everyone is deboarding :)
