If it is plastic bottles, then ragpickers readily picks them and give them to recyclers. No issues there.

Using them in a garden deco is ridiculous. I dont want a qutub minar of plastic bottles in my garden.

I think the only way is to reduce at source. I hve stopped using plastic bags while grocery shopping. Little tip - I always have that grocery bag with me evert time I go out, even when I go to a wedding.

Whatever is left after that, I try to put in a municipal dustbin, i.e. if I can find one (that story for another day). There is only so much I can do individually.

Hmm, why do we forget that bureaucrats and politicians come from the very society we're all a part of? They're a mere extension of the rot amongst all of us. 


I mean, yes, we NEED/WANT/EXPECT them to have some integrity and do their job well - but isn't their mentality a reflection of the society's mentality too? 


Not many of us would behave when put in a position of power. Bureaucracy gives you a lot of power. So they take it for a toss, as would a majority of us.


Politicians and bureaucrats are not isolated entities. They’re shaped by the same cultural, ethical, moral frameworks as everyone else. If a society tolerates or normalizes corruption, those behaviors seep into institutions and then, Institutions of power simply amplify what already exists - both the good and the bad.


Now think about this - even within the setup, we don't have any means to reward an officer who does exceptional (or even more than average) work. When you, as an officer do something different, people from the higher ups get insecure and jealous of you, and create hindrance towards everything you do. 


In retrospect, progress is possible when societies confront their contradictions. It requires both - individual accountability ("What would I do with power?") and collective effort to build institutions that elevate ethical behavior. And unless we do that, both on a personal level and on a societal level, shit stays the same way it has always been.
