Started my first co in the 1970s bootstrapped into 2.5 mil annually before crashing during major recession in 1981. Started co 2 from the sensor co 1 again bootstrapped for a few years and then found a VC who injected 1.1 m. Based on us getting into a new but related business. Hired an appropriate staff to grow was successful but needed another year to profitability. Had been looking for second round but did not get any help from VC. Finally ran out of money , reduced staff and stagnated for couple of years until we got bought by another small public company. Lasted 8 months, realized these guys were crooks, got fired, sued their ass and was successful to the extent that I got very small amount of money but also 100k in their software which I then started co 3 and resold their software until I built my own. This was just pre internet so I took the app and created internet version, expanded into related business and sold 20 years later for north of 10 mil. Moral or the story is PERSISTENCE! And belief in your self. Also a pair of balls helps!

I think its high time Tata revives the SUMO brand. It is such an iconic brand name that is being wasted IMO. Tata can really pull one by launching a mini-Defender under the name SUMO around the 40L-50L segment will features and proper 4x4 or AWD to compete with the likes of Fortuner, Majestor, Kodiaq, etc. SUMO by itself was a proper big vehicle. They just need to make it bigger and give it the dimensions (\~4.9M) and the design of the Defender (safari is already 4.7m).

I think remaking the old Safari is a lost cause. Keen followers know that current Safari was never meant to resemble or be under such an iconic name. It was to be called the Gravitas. Unless TATA offers 2.0L TGDI on harrier and safari with AWD.
