Where I live, the crackers go off at 1 or 2 AM and at other random hours when most people are fast asleep. It’s not just during Diwali; this happens on any given night usually between midnight and 4 AM. The noise starts, stops and then starts again-this relentless pattern continues till 8 am most days. The older script used for writing Meiteilon (Meitei language) was the Bengali script which the older generations used to read and write in. They might know how a Bengali word might be pronounced but will not be able to know the meaning because bengali was never taught in school during their time also.
