tl;dr Magnus has always been a bit of a dickhead and this incident is just another example. However, earlier, he was just your average arrogant sports athlete but lately his behaviour has been unacceptable.

I have followed classical chess loosely from around 2011ish (Anand-Topalov match was my first, I think) with a bit of a break in between before fully getting back into it in 2020.

And I have never once liked Magnus. I have always thought he was arrogant, snide and stubborn and I still hold those opinions a decade later. Sure, he has the ability to back it up (bit of an understatement) but I have never liked arrogant players in any sport and Magnus is among the more arrogant ones.

I think lately he has conducted himself too poorly for it to simply be an arrogance problem. Regardless of what you think of Hans Niemann, Carlsen’s conduct in that controversy was unacceptable. Hans has definitely cheated online but to land a 20 year old in so much controversy and unwarranted attention (which results in hate) because you couldn’t handle a loss is embarrassing. I also didn’t like the way he didn’t clearly communicate his withdrawal from the WCC match but maybe I am being harsh here.

And then there is this incident. It’s not that hard to follow a dress code that was agreed upon before the tournament commenced. Chess players manage to adhere to them all the time. And it’s obviously not just about the jeans here: he is in a struggle with FIDE over the freestyle stuff (FWIW, he has always been at odds with FIDE start from the Candidates that Gelfand won — 2012?). Between his undermining of classical chess and his relationship with the Saudis, I am done with this guy and his glazers. He even said he admires or is in awe of Mohammed bin Salman’s aura. For reference, that’s the crown prince of Saudi who ordered the murder of a journalist because he couldn’t handle his criticism. He has also known to clamp down on political dissent/opposition in the country.

So yeah, those are my thoughts on Magnus.

I started my trek , climate changed when I was trekking nd upon reaching the rest house it stated snowing nd the best part is every other mountain near khaliya top had no snow it's just the mountain where I was climbing which was experiencing snowfall nd that was the tym i realised universe works on another level 🍾🍾🍾
