Op you have a pretty big responsibility on your hands (cant emphasise this enough), if you want to keep them properly and give them a good life its gonna be expensive (upwards of 500 rupees per month , and time consuming as they are not inanimate toys.

so if your not ready pls be a responsible person give the hamster back.

(I assume you got this on a whim and not really researched them properly, as most people do and then regret because its out of budget or the animal dies of poor conditions.)

that said if you want to keep one pls make sure you check of all these points.

1. firstly make sure your enclosure is made of glass or acrylic and not a cage of wire!!!
2. at minimum 3 square feet for 1 hamsters and dont keep multiple together.
3. Make sure you have good quality bedding as they like to dig like other rodents. and pls change it regularly !
4. give them a varied diet (that they can eat) and not the cheap ones sold in markets they are literal poison for them.
5. give them interactive stuff like toys and bridges/tunnels (make sure the material is safe for them)
6. they are not toys and have their own temperament and live mostly in solitude but can be trained to do some tricks but otherwise like interacting with their humans
7. make sure you know a vet that can handle such rodents
