India is a poor country. As per the last census about 60% of the people are below the median poverty line defined by WHO. That census was a long time ago and the income disparity has only increased, meaning there are more people now. In such a country, car is a luxury. Even a used Nano is a luxury for 60% of the country. Luxury products are always taxes higher. It sucks, but it is what it is.
