Sugarcane farming is one of the worst environmentally damaging human activity.. ex: only 3% of farmland in Maharastra is under sugarcane cultivation, but it uses up 60% of MH's water.. and the amounts of urea/fertilizers Indian farmers dump into sugarcane fields is nothing short of crime.. And the politics of this sugar farmers is toxic AF.. sugar farmers gave us idiots like Sharad Pawar, Ajit powars, that sule idiot, deve gowda, his sons (legitimate and illegitamate) Ajit Singh in UP and other politicians of these ilk..

Cellulose is the most abundant polymer in nature.. and there are technologies which can convert cellulose to glucose, but yields are low and processes are cumbersome.. someday I want to develop an easy way to convert cellulose into sugar, not only help environment but also make these idiotic farmer-politicians jobless.
