I've found that the built in (Preview and such) utilities seem to work less and less as Apple moves the OS versions forward. Mostly I suspect due to the printer vendors not keeping their stand along drivers updated.

Whenever I want to change my sleep pattern, I try to stay awake for a whole day, and then sleep early the next day.

So, let's say I'm sleeping at 6 or 7 a.m. daily, and I want to start waking up at 8 or 9 a.m. I will stay awake for a whole day, and then sleep at 9 or 10 p.m. the next day. Because I didn't sleep the previous day, I'll fall asleep quickly and wake up the following morning. From then on, my body will naturally try to fall asleep at 9 or 10 p.m., and this cycle continues until I change it.
