This is on the higher end. I thought I will see another person that thinks a reasonable price should be $500/month (I see plenty of those and that is unrealistic as well), but no. My agency (no plug here, I am not looking for new local clients), charges $4,000 for a new website from the ground up with content and all on page SEO elements worked correctly (keyword research and site structure was done by me) and first year of hosting for free then $500/year (that is on the higher end too, our cost is much lower for that but the lawyer is not tech savvy and does not want to take care of anything). A SEO package for a local client ranges from $2,500 to $4,000 most of the time, in rare occasions we go slightly lower or higher than that.

This is for an agency that does its job well, not sales-focused overpromissing and underdelivering one like 80% of the agencies out there (unfortunately that is the case).

You can do better, shop around more, look for other practices in your area and ask them who built their website when you find one that you like, most of the time you will get a good referral.

**Google Search Console** gives you an **average** per day. **Semrush** takes a **snapshot**. So if rankings are volatile, what Semrush is showing can be random. It is not wrong. It is just not an accurate description of the whole day.

If you see these fluctuations in Semrush but not Google Search Console, ignore Semrush.

If you see these fluctuations in Google Search Console as well, **check** Semrush to see **if only your domain is fluctuating or** if the **whole result list** changes.

I worked for 5-years at Searchmetrics, a former Semrush competitor. While investigating a customer complaint, I found keywords that have different top 20 rankings on at least an hourly basis. Monitoring that with any SEO rank tracking software is a huge pain.

If the whole top 20 changes constantly, there is probably nothing you can do.

If only your page has a volatile ranking and the rest is rather stable, please take a good look at the **search intent** of the keyword, your title (+meta description), and content. Sometimes Google thinks you are relevant, gives you a top 10 ranking, and then denotes you if the user signals are not good.

The first signal Google can measure is of course **CTR**. So you want your snippet to look as attractive as possible. Especially in comparison to the other pages ranking on page 1.

The second thing Google wants to measure is how well your **content matches the user intent**. So make sure the **keyword** you are targeting, the **title**, and **content** all **match**. For some topics that means a video or a page where you can buy something - not a blog article.
