It blows my mind that 52 % of my fellow white women voted for Trump despite the fact that he is an obvious fascist. I have tried to wrap my mind around why and I only have guesses but I don't think the main issue was the economy.


I am in a rural region in the southern US, I know many women who work outside the home and may even hold leadership roles in their employment but are still very sexist against their own gender. They look very suspiciously against any female candidates. There's a lot of internal misogyny in their thinking.


Even if they wouldn't call themselves Christian Nationalists, I also know  many women who hold many of the same  views as Christian Nationalists. They weren't going to vote for the Democrats no matter how bad the Republican candidate was. To them Democrats are always anti American and anti Christianity even if the Democrat candidate is more religious than their opponent.


Racism. I don't have to go over this because anyone who talks to a die hard Republican knows it's true . 


The fact that the Democrats tend to support the status quo played a part. People want change. Many people are not doing well financially or see their adult children struggling. Democrat politicians don't do a good job reaching the working class. The fact that many of them love Bernie Sanders means that they would accept more liberal policies if it came from a man who spoke directly to them. Sadly, it can't come from a woman no matter how intelligent or accomplished she is. The misogyny is honestly very discouraging.


I'm sure other people have additional reasons. It would be nice if we could figure out a way to overcome these issues but many of them seem so engrained that it's hard to know what can be done. However, I also don't want to give up. If we want to change the country then we have to figure out how to deprogram at least some Trump Voters.


Sorry for the length but I have been doing a lot of soul searching lately.
