Coming to your bike the thunderbird 500 used an efi (electronic fuel injection) that part is prone to fail. If your bike stood for a while it may sometimes fail(not always). It'll cost you somewhere around 8-10k if I remember correctly. Then the O2 sensor needs to be checked. I think thats why your bikes running jerky. Also the ecu unit on your bike has to be checked if it's functioning properly. There's also a carburettor conversion kit for the 500 engine which runs smooth. The other part that fails is the starter motor. The 500 used a heavier one compared to the 350s another 4-5k other than this other parts are like clutch plates, housing etc are quite manageable. Unless they've installed a new bore, pistons you won't need to run in. Only when all these are replaced you need to run the bike for it to set.
