A couple of pointers to start -
1. Have your Google maps download an offline map of Mumbai. Easier to commute/walk around.
2. There's a bus pass for a day/3 days unlimited. In a few situations, a bus journey is decently good. There's also an option of Chalo bus app for reserved bus travels (avoid during office hours).
3. Autos for most of the western suburban areas are economical.
4. Metro lines have their own apps although, but you can buy tickets on WhatsApp/PhonePe/PayTM too.
5. People are usually very friendly, so don't hesitate to ask for help. Also, if you're hungry, find office areas/railway stations around for a quick snack (vada pav etc), and be hydrated.
