To be fair, I think yeah, planting a flag on mars would be *very* valuable in so many ways. Having a permanent settlement there would be good, especially if it was self-sufficient (mostly), but even beyond becoming a multi-planet species, just the technology involved in getting people to Mars and back would be a HUGE leap forward for space travel and space exploration.

This is not a defense of the dismantling of USAID. USAID is an incredibly important and cost-efficient program.

I just think both of these goals (helping people and landing on Mars) are good. I mean, assuming we actually GET to Mars, which at this rate it's feeling more like a scam, a "We'll definitely do this next year, just keep paying me"
