tulsi mala and tilak, one round of mala around the neck needs no shelter, 2 rounds i think is for sheltered devotees and 3 is initiated. you can find tulsi mala at ur local ISKCON temple and you can ask the pujari to offer to the lord before you wear it. i would recommend wearing one round around your neck if you are starting out for the first time.

I have seen some people wear a Tulsi Mala. It may not be visible for all (I have seen some wear a tulsi mala as chocker and some use it as a japa mala).
