I am from North, help me understand why is there so much more conflict among northeastern people (possibly excluding Assam and sikkim idk) considering it is a much smaller region as compared to the rest of India which considerably larger but still united by only one thing that is shared culture.
NE people don't have anything much to unite them besides being Indian which for them seems to be too abstract where the realities of tribal identity is more concrete and near. They don't really have a unifying language or religion either. Whereas the rest of India have a shared tradition in Hinduism and being a part of the great tradition of Bharat, the NE people don't have anything like that.
The conflict comes when there is competition for resource from land to reservation quotas, this activates their tribal feeling and breed conflict. Consider the "Cauvery water despite" between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, both Indians divided over resource that activates their own form of tribal identity in the conflict. Of course it's not as bad as NE since they still feel united in other ways whereas NE people don't. -

Lol. Northern Indians are equally divided too. It's just that many people in the north east have the means and the motive to take up arms rather than focusing on civilian methods like the rest of India.
It's simply a difference in the amount you value life.
