You may have a few things conflated.  How was the business structured?  C-Corp, LLC (multi-member or solo, Partnership), did you make S-corp designation?


You can be an owner/partner and an employee.  Both are taxed, but at different rates.  You should get both a W-2 and a K-1.  The W-2 will report how much was paid through payroll, the K-1 will report your share of the profits at the end of the year.


The difference is you are subject to social security withholding for your salary.  Your profits are a dividend distribution and not subject to social security tax.  


If the CEO stops paying you a salary and you just take owner draws of the profits, the entire amount is subject to social security tax (up to the limit).

My thoughts are, if you and your competition were equal, and adding the post would give you the advantage, then why would you not do it. Same can be said for the frequency and different types of updates. As far as other things to keep track of, make sure you respond to your reviews and try asking and answering a few questions in the fact section. Anything that gives your business more digital real estate for minimal effort is good in my book. And if it's something Google still has on their platform, then why wouldn't it help. Also build up local citations with NAP accurate across all listings. I'm currently running local based seo for several service based companies and these are the first steps we take (along with optimizing Google profile, website and accurately listing service categories)
