Just recently during a get-together with some friends who I meet regularly, one of them casually asked what my caste is. I was surprised by the question and I responded in a light-hearded tone that I reject this arbitrary classification system altogether, and then he probed further asking whether I consider myself privileged. Not sure what he was getting to, but by now I was uncomfortable to engage any further and I made a joke and changed the topic.

Another time someone else also asked me the same thing and I dodged the question and he said "Okay, but if you had to fill up a form and this field was mandatory, then what would you put in there?" and I said I'll leave it blank, and he just couldn't let it go and kept asking me the same thing in different ways.
