We had the older gen (better) fortuner and I still hated it. I always used to and still do see it as a poor man's LC being the fundamentals of having bulletproof reliability and get you anywhere character of both cars are the same - but the ride was abysmal, performance was not great on highways, we had a manual and it felt like driving a truck with that heavy clutch. Also ancient interiors to a point the latest version isn't too different.
