“Religion” is a smaller perspective. “Belief” is significant. A bunch of beliefs form a persons identity (religion of course is the largest shareholder). Beliefs of religion, communism, fascism, imperialism etc are the problem.

People who believe “A” to the core are threatened by people who believes “B”. There is no common ground and due to this insecurity people kill each other (maybe a little less now). If you look into human history, it’s always “my belief” vs “your belief”.
