All the people saying that you shouldn't care about what other people say and just pursue your hobbies are missing how some hobbies require you to be social. If you want to play sports that hardly any women play, you're going have a hard time. Even gaming, cars, watching sports are social activities that are best enjoyed with a group of like-minded people.

I rarely find women who share the same interests, and men can be dismissive and unwelcoming.

Outside of my brother and my boyfriend, I don't easily find guys who want to play sports with me, and few girls know how to play the sport I do (football).

Obviously the personal solution is to find people who're nice about it, but that doesn't mean that society doesn't need to do better. Hobbies, especially sports, need to stop being so gender segregated and that starts with encouraging girls and boys to explore more than the stereotypical interests for their gender.
