Idk what kind of fear mongering is this, but no one is forcing anyone to adopt hindi. As per NEP, it is required to take 3rd language as a non regional language. Generally the 1st language is English, 2nd is the major regional language and 3rd is non regional language which is Hindi in some cases. That's it.

You see Humans don't like to change thier beliefs and our brains a literally built to find patterns that support our belief, even if they are wrong.
This happens because our brains are kinda lazy so instead of understanding the topic completely and learning all the facts (which requires efforts and energy) our brains simply support the existing image (which requires less effort and energy)
And this pretty much implies to all the humans.

Specially in case of politics and religion
People are always surrounded by other people with the same beliefs which puts them in a type of circle jerk of their beliefs which eventually leads to radicalization
