    I think crime rates depends upon the pedigree of immigrants moving into the city. Someone indicated spitting gutka. As someone who lived in Kolkata for a little over 5-6 years, I have never seen educated folks with decent jobs do that, it was mostly migrant bihari labourers mostly involved in blue collar jobs who I've seen do this, which percolated into the blue collored bengali labourers as well (don't mean to be racist but it was just my observation)

    Secondly I do want to c, to a certain degree, kochi to be a tad bit more cosmo. Firstly I very sense a kind of alienation and negative perception folks here have on North Indians. There is no clear sense of awareness of the kind of vibrancy that cultures from the north has to offer. Unfortunately, everything relared to the north is mostly ewuated with "gutka", "illetracy" "cow dung" etc. I see cultural pluralism as a hallmark of any global city so Kochi shouldn't be an exception
