Malayalees are not an ethnicity -Infact barring some tribal groups in India (like the ones in Andaman or Tibetan people who were isolated by geography)most Indians are way too mixed to be neatly categorized into any box. Aryan invasion theory is not correct.

All Indians are basically a combination of  hunter-gatherers who lived on the land for tens of thousands of years, farmers with Iranian ancestry who arrived sometime between 4700 and 3000 B.C.E., and herders from the central Eurasian steppe region who migrated into the region sometime after 3000 B.C.E., perhaps between 1900 and 1500 B.C.E.

People look different phenotypically because the ratios of these 3 admixture tends to be different. This is true for populations across India and of people within any one state like Kerala as well.

Even historically ,Malayalees had no sense of common identity -it was British controlled Malabar and kingdoms of Cochin and Travancore. Most idenitities we hold onto now are very recent occurences,in short .
