Ah, the story of my life. This happened to me in Toronto too. There were two occasions where Gujarati uncles started speaking to me in Gujarati, and I had no clue what they were saying. When I told them I didn’t understand, one of them had the nerve to say, “Oh, so you’re a Madrasi!” His tone was so innocent that I could tell he didn’t mean to be rude—maybe he’d been in Canada for decades—but I just smiled and said, “No, I’m from Kerala,” and moved on.

I had told my classmates that I didn’t mind if they spoke to me in Hindi, because I’d already mentioned I understand it a little bit. So, when we were in a group, they would mix English and Hindi, which worked fine for me. But still my close friends were non-Indians, because I could speak English with them and don’t feel like an outsider.

As for strangers who would randomly start speaking to me in Hindi, I’d just tell them I didn’t understand. Why would I go out of my way to speak an Indian language while living in Canada?

* This idea of reversing TFR is emerging from the developed countries like Japan, South Korea etc. which already have a pretty good social security measures like education, healthcare and the rule of law, can't say same for Andhra Pradesh and India.
* AP to have a such policy at current scenario looks absurd because we still haven't covered the basics.
* People, particularly educated, are aware of the mental capacity and financial capacity needed to give a better future for a child will either have no kids or limit to 1 kid.

Any recommendations for places in south Bengaluru? Jayanagar, JP Nagar, Kanakapura road?
