அதுவரை மதிப்பெண்களுக்காக மனப்பாடம் செய்த தமிழிலக்கிய பாடல்களின் உள்ளர்த்தத்தை உணரவைத்தூர். பாகற்காயாய் கசந்த தமிழ் இலக்கணம்,சிறிதேனும் எங்கள் மண்டையில் ஏற வைத்தார். பட்டிமன்றம் மற்றும் அரட்டை அரங்கத்தில் அவர் பங்கேற்றதால், அவரை தொலைக்காட்சியில் கண்ட எங்களில் பலருக்கும் அந்த பேச்சுத் தமிழார்வம் தொற்றிக்கொண்டது.

மேடை பயம் கொண்ட என்னைப்போன்ற பலரை மேடையேற்றி பேச வைத்தார், தமிழ் மேடை நாடகங்களில் நடிக்க வைத்தார். அதற்கு முன்பு வரை ஆங்கில பேச்சும் நாடகங்களுமே , எங்கள் ஆண்டு விழாக்களில் பரவலாக இருந்தது. அதுவரை ஆங்கில புத்தகங்களை மட்டுமே வாசித்த எனக்கு, தமிழ் வாசிப்புப் பழக்கம் ஏற்படவும் அவரே காரணம்.
