I think getting SEO+Content is always combining two different services. . If you publish an article about your observation or reading of a law or legal process or legal event, Google isn't in a better position to "judge" that - nor can it say someone elses observation is objectively better

And so a lot of SEO just isn't related to the actual output of SEO.

However - I think there are some key questions you need to ask so that you dont have any "questions" and then there are key KPIs and Reports that help you know if your SEO is on track.

I'll summarize them here:

1. You need to have a hand in picking keywords and you need training on how to identify high intent keywords. As I joked before - a page with "What is a medical malpractice lawyer" should have a "Sign up to our blog" CTA, a page with "Top malpractise lawyers in Seattle" goes straight to a phone number and "I need a representative lawyer after an arrest in Seattle" goes straight to a premium number :D

$CPC is another way to help determine "intent"

2. You need to understand that strategy - X keywords = Y pages Y pages/month \* X = time to deliver

3. SERP Reports - and mostly the score = progression

4. Traffic and Leads from GA4/CRM = Sanity
