I was a cofounder and COO for a venture-backed startup for 5 years and currently based in the same area. I'd say build as far out as you can without a co-founder, unless you already have a team in mind.

The reason is, being cofounders require a lot of trust. And you cannot build trust over a weekend of hackathon. Once you've built something, even just proof of concept, you can demo, get interest, ask for referral / recommendation.

I'd also start a list of "wishes". A lot of cofounder conflicts come down in value, philosophy, and how people want to run the company, and what people want to get out from it. Some wants to get rich fast, some prefer slow but solid growth. Thing will change of course. But it's a good starting point.

Most have no idea what they are doing themselves. Check out the last week or two of posts here and you will see things like “help, I just won a client and I don’t know what to do” - it’s surreal. Best advice is find a word of mouth reference if you can.

I give my clients a weekly report with actual words/analysis/my input along with the KPIs. It’s a partnership. Any SEO not treating it like that can pound sand. A report is useless without meaning.

Can’t tell you how many SEO/PPC accounts I have taken over and I’m in utter shock at what is wrong or lacking, and objectively looking at data (and clients with no leads).

Helps to ask them the right questions, show proof of past performance, sample reports, how they handle certain scenarios, hell even ask for past client references… anything.

Stay away from the companies who aren’t grinding. If they give you the BS analysis email it’s BS

I've run a pretty substantial agency for 18 years. I've never been fired from a job, but I've been fired more than anyone I know. If you truly have great results and no communication issues, just know that clients can always be crazy. Be introspective. If you really did a good job and know it, create a case study and more on. I once had a client fire me, so I submitted our work to one of the biggest awards out there. We won for his work, and I sent the award to his boss. We got the client back after our contact was fired.

I think there is a malayalam teacher taking classes for kids and partners married to malayalis somwhere near rotterdam. . Available also online..
