punished for eating nonveg food at school
I studied in a private veg school. We also had a "food monitor". I befriended him and slowly started bringing eggs, and one day he got curious and he tried it and absolutely loved it. After that, he started eating it everytime I got it, and once I had leverage I brought chicken. He threatened to snitch on me, and I threatened to tell his parents he eats egg everyday. He understood and let me go.
Then I started bringing beef. I was in 8th Std that time. When my mom asked me how come school is allowing you to bring non veg, I told her the story and she said this is how people trap kids with drugs. Till today I'm not sure if she was proud or ashamed of what I did. -

China opened up its economy in 1978 & since then, its GDP growth rate averaged 8.93% from 1979-2023. Why was India so oblivious to the fact that china was growing so rapidly & only opened up the market when IMF forced them, as a condition to granting them a loan?
Vested interests and fears. Although the awareness that our system isn't working was realised in the early 80s. They were very very gradually deregulating even in the 80s.
1. A lot of people were becoming very rich off the bribes extracted by the babus and the mafia state. And removing them was very hard without consensus. Or a shock to the system.
2. The Indian state has always been a nanny state and has infantilized its population. The thinking was "oh these poor people will not be able to compete in the market."
3. Industrialists were happy producing sub-standard cars and materials, they hadn't upgraded their manufacturing in decades and we were the 50s while the world was in the 90s. So they also didn't think it was possible.
4. Most people still operated under the assumption that industrialists and businessmen are evil and if markets are allowed to operate freely society will become corrupt and morals will get lost and the precious Indian village will be destroyed.
5. Recall movies like Deewar and Zanjeer. For 30 years, businessmen were often shown as villains in Bollywood exploiting the righteous young dashing worker. And now you're suggesting we hand over the country to those villains?
6. Letting market forces operate would mean devaluing our currency massively which is a tabboo even today (but shouldn't be)
So now imagine you're the leadership.
Imagine you're doing something that everyone says will be a bad idea. The people are against it. The industry is against it. The bureacrats are against it. The popular imagination of the country is against it.
People think that opening up your economy is akin to "desh ko bech dena". It is a traitorous act. If you do it, people will start speculating that you're corrupt and you have accepted bribes from foreign businessmen.
Would you have the courage of conviction to stand and make that decision? Knowing that if this goes sideways (and it easily could have) you will be remembered historically as a traitor? How would you go about even convincing the bureacrats to write the laws and the judiciary to support them.
It is obvious now. It wasn't obvious then. -

Best Shawarma
Wow... I had nearly forgotten the name - Lemon tree. Thanks for reviving the memories.
Spent 2007 to 2010 going there almost every friday. Best grilled chicken n shawarma i have had. Buying drinks from the liquor shop across the road and then heading home for a relaxing dine n drink with mates. Sometimes the homely 'burger' from DownTown just the other side of KD road.
Been to many cities and countries since, n have had grilled chicken n shawarma all over - and i still long for Lemon tree.
Damn, I miss Mysore days. -

I'm joining expert college this year need advice.
Idk why so many students come from Bangalore to Mangalore for Expert. Is there no institute that can prep you for jee/neet in Bangalore or what? Okay so let me tell you i wore the orange (kodialbail) for 2 years unlike the blue in valachil, and i was a localite so no hostel. But i had friends who were hostelites and some of them had transferred from valachil to kodialbail because valachil is damn strict bro. You can't exit the campus. They transferred to city "campus" and rented an apartment which they said to me was way way better. Because you see you cant have a phone, can't do anything else except studying in valachil after classes end at 7. Here they used to chill after 7. So if avoiding expert is not possible then atleast try to get into kodialbail "campus" and rent a flat nearby. I was pcmc student so i don't much about neet faculties but jee once are good if not excellent but that was 6-7 years ago so idk how it is now. Lol while typing this i remembered that they use to call us the non serious class because we were pcmc/s class and not pcmb. And that we are just having fun and not studying. One main advice i will give if you still end up at expert, make friends because friends will help you a lot and will make the 2 years bearable. I did and that was the reason how i survived 2 years. Hmu if you have any doubts. -
If The River Ganga is Revered as a Goddess, Why Do We Pollute Her So Much?
The same way we revere the cow as our mother, yet countless cattle are abandoned on the streets, left to fend for themselves, scavenging from garbage bins. Reverence without responsibility is just hypocrisy. -
