In my opinion, anything you watch will affect you, not just on a rational/personal level but also, much deeply, on a subconscious level. If you watch enough violent content, it can bother some individuals at a level deeper than we can anticipate. We are the subconscious product of what we feed ourselves.

The answer is more nuanced than just outright banning violence in movies. I personally feel that it should be explored in a more nuanced fashion, right now some movies just outright glorify violence, the character faces very little consequence.

Another step could be to implement a warning system, as is done with scenes including alcohol and smoking. It evokes that annoying ad we see at the beginning of every movie, but it works in making people aware that smoking and drinking is bad, while giving a bit of leeway for artistic/cinematic expression. The effectiveness of it is a debate in itself.
