I don't think this parents' card is gender specific, but years of manipulation especially when you're growing up is one reason that why we can't go against our parents. Also, we are never taught to own up our mistakes or accept our failures , instead we are bashed left and right when we fail ( I have seen this mostly common amongst millenials , so when I say we , please consider it as majority of millenials) so when we fail to take accountability of our actions especially cause failures are not just let gone , we leave the deciding authority to our parents and therefore the subservient mentality. So with this mentality we also shame our fellow friends / colleagues etc when they disobey their parents. In short when it comes to parents , disagreements mean disrespect so we tend to be so submissive leaving all the important decisions of our life to them ( like college majors , marriage etc). And if you disagree there are two tropes that the parents follow either an emotional drama about how they are ageing and they always have best interests or they simple banish you from the "family" and don't contact you at all, both of these can really hurt the fragile ego and because we are also manipulated to beleive in karma etc, we end up being a sub.

Also , we are alien to the concept of Boundaries as well , we don't have one cause we don't create one for ourselves and we don't create one cause we don't respect someone who has one. This is the stupid cycle that we have created.

Only when someone wftually introspects his life like every now and then we really know what impact our behaviour has on us and people around us.
