Hey. Welcome to Mangalore. PG's are not that common in Mangalore. There are a few limited options in city limits. But I'd recommend finding a shared apartment or a 1bhk for yourself.

English is enough to get by. But learning basic Kannada/tulu once you are here will help a lot.

Work-life balance to me is great. Lesser commute time means more time for yourself. But socializing in Mangalore isn't that easy. Try finding other tamilians in the city and that would be the quickest way for you to make connections. It's a small city so night life is very limited but it's gotten better over the last few years.

Sambar is sweet here. Rasam in some places is sweet too. That is something a few tamilians I know found very difficult to get used to. But if you are a non vegetarian, there are too many good options here.
